FELT

"Joseph Beuys considered felt as a serious and innovative medium for making his art and Sarah Waters has been inspired to follow faithfully in his footsteps ".

FELT MAKING

Ancient art for the modern day living

Felt is the earliest non woven fabric known to man. This ancient technique uses water, soap and friction or agitation to create the matting of the fibres to produce dense, strong durable pieces of textiles made up of permanently interlocking fibres. Every sheep and every lock of wool has a different characteristic, which in turn behaves differently.  Sarah works with these attributes to achieve stunning textural felt within her work.

Sarah believes in the continued support of the British Wool industry and as such sources much of her fleece locally.
