Tapestry of Voices brings together Alice Burnhope, Divya Sharma, Holly Hallawell, Sarah Waters and Yahvi Duggal, five contemporary artists working across diverse textile techniques and materials. Through their individual practices, the artists explore how textiles can preserve personal and collective memories, reflect cultural traditions and express experiences of belonging, migration and change.
From collaborative textile sculptures and large-scale installations to handwoven tapestries, felted forms and experimental biomaterials, the exhibition highlights the evolving role of textiles in contemporary art. Drawing on inherited knowledge, everyday rituals, natural landscapes and lived experiences, the works offer different perspectives on the relationship between materials, people and place.
Presented as the culmination of Art Voyage Biennial’s wider Tapestry of Voices programme, supported by Arts Council England with funding from the National Lottery, the exhibition connects contemporary artistic practice with community participation, creative development and cultural exchange.

The World of Threads Festival is a leading international showcase of contemporary fibre and textile art. We are a not-for-profit initiative with charitable status.
The festival is organized and curated by mother and son team, dedicated volunteer Dawne Rudman, and Gareth Bate. We have a team of dedicated volunteers. Festival 2023-24 attracted over 80,000 visitors.
Some of the most exciting and compelling artworks being made today are happening in the field of fibre and textile arts. In our current age where tech companies would like to replace artists with automated AI generated imagery, making art using fibre and textile methods becomes a radical gesture. It’s an affirmation of human making and human creativity.
